Favourite films #2 (2013 version)

Last year Sight & Sound published their decennial list of "the best films" ever made. I published my top ten too. Since it was a pain to choose ten films I have now allowed myself to make a new list with films that might as well have ended up on last year's list. Here they are, in chronological order. I still enforce the rule that any director gets only one film. 15 films was the target this time but I failed...

  1. Have you seen Kore-eda's latest film LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON? It seems to be well-liked enough to make it into the New York Film Festival, but none of my friends cared for it, perhaps because the story of babies switched at birth and assigned to very different families has been used several times before. I feel quite alone in liking it.

  2. Unfortunately I haven't seen it yet. But I of course want to. Koreeda has yet to disappoint me.

    No, neither Bergman nor Ekman make it to the absolute elite collection. If I had listed, say, 50 films they'd be in there. Sawdust and Tinsel by Bergman and Wandering With The Moon by Ekman are probably my favourites from their oeuvres.
